i was speaking with aja of kindred the family soul recently and she mentioned that their debut cd, surrender to love, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. my initial response was a little disbelief, like, wordddddd?? it’s been TEN years?? it seems like just yesterday when i first heard some of my faves from that cd including “far away,” “if i,” “stars,” “rhythm of life”… actually it’s hard for me to even choose a favorite from this project because it was such a solid piece of work.
to celebrate the anniversary, kindred is planning to release a live cd and they’re in the studio putting together their next project, which the duo plans to drop later this year. so if you’re fans of the family be on the lookout for some great tunes coming from philly’s finest really soon.
a love song a day till valentine’s day! it’s stevie wonder, of course, with “as.” come on now, this song is nothin’ but love. stevie’s got love songs on top of love songs on top of love songs, but these lyrics here…
until the day is night and night becomes the day—loving you
until the trees and seas just up and fly away—loving you
until the day that 8x8x8 is 4—loving you
until the day that is the day that are no more
it’s so hard to decide on just one love song from kindred the family soul to post because they have sooooo many awesome songs to choose from! “if i” is an old favorite of mine from their surrender to love cd.
“i’m a drunken fiend for the smell of you/if you go away what would I do…” woooooo!!! that’s love, y’all! yet another fave. a long song a day till valentine’s day!
sharing some of my favorite love songs now through valentine’s day right here on the juke joint. 🙂 first up is erykah badu and stephen marley‘s “in love with you” from erykah’s mama’s gun cd. i used to play this song on repeat!! i’m sure i’m not the only one.
